Volunteer Activities
The following are some of the activities in which volunteers participate at Covenant House Pennsylvania. The list is not exhaustive, but is intended to suggest our typical requirements and cover a reasonable range of interests:
Activity Areas
1. Assisting youth in employment-related tasks: Writing and updating resumes, cover letters, faxing resumes, filling out job applications, typing and basic PC operations, interviewing techniques, job coaching, occupational knowledge
2. Mentoring youth in educational and practical skills: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health and Self Awareness, Consumer and Household Economics, Cultural Awareness, Government, Citizenship, and Law
3. Maintenance and Housekeeping: Cleaning, Painting, Minor “handy-man” repairs, Yard work
4. Administrative support: Filing, Typing, Data entry, Completing mass mailings, Organizing supplies, Supporting special projects and special events, managing clothing donations
5. Youth care support: Driving youth to appointments in CHPA van, Supporting a staff youth adviser as a youth care aide, Being a “grand mom” for infants and tots of working mothers, Playing board games with the youth, Preparing sandwiches and snacks for “visiting” kids and outreach
