“WHY I GIVE”

To mark our 25 Year Anniversary, we are asking our Donors to tell us why they give to Covenant House PA. Our first interview is with Chris Maus, CHPA Board Member and President of CAMCO Property Management.

How did you become connected to the work of Covenant House PA?

11 years ago, I saw a post from a woman I went to high-school with that she was participating in the sleep-out with Toll Brothers. I sponsored her for the event. Next year, I then received an email that I could start my own team which I signed up for and my wife and I raised a little over $6K. Being able to participate and actually sleep-out and a get a glimpse of what the young adults go through was enough for me to want to continue to support Covenant House PA.

Do you have a particular story of moment that moved you to get involved?

My first year at the sleepout was at the Germantown facility and it was set-up that we got to go through different parts of the building and speak to multiple youth. It was beyond impactful. After hearing the young adults’ stories, I was committed 100% and began speaking often with John Ducoff, the previous director, on ideas. This led to me being invited to join the Board six years ago.

What motivates you to give to the organization?

The staff that show endless care for these young adults is inspiring. Never do you feel that they can’t figure out how to make things work. It is inspiring to help as much as possible.

What changes are you hoping to make with the gifts you give?

Opportunity – in life we all need opportunities to keep moving forward and I hope with the money we all raise we can have the right people help these young adults move forward.

What makes Covenant House PA a special organization?

In my opinion, it is one of a kind, with direct support and 100% care and dedication of all the staff. Young adults need guidance, love and support, and I believe with all my heart this is what CHPA provides.
