Our 76-bed Safe Haven houses young men, young women, and young families. In addition to our three residential floors, the building houses a team that assists with going to college and finding a job, a first-class clinic, pastoral ministry, and a cafeteria. Our fundraising, finance, facilities, and administrative departments are also all on-site at this location.
Each of three residential floors contain bedrooms with bunk or single beds and lockers for securing personal belongings, bathrooms with private showers and stalls, laundry facilities, and a recreational lounge for watching tv, playing games, and hosting community meetings. We have two floors for young women, one for young men, and six beds for young families.
On the first floor we have a full-service clinic with two exam rooms for meeting our young people's physical, psychological, and emotional needs. Staffing the clinic are a two doctors, a psychiatrist, and a clinical coordinator. At our on-site cafeteria youth and staff share meals together daily. Outside is a recreational area with benches and tables and a basketball half court. In our basement is our educational and vocational department and computer lab where youth can complete school work and search for employment.
This location is a 20-bed program comprised of 10, two-bedroom apartment units that residents share. The apartments have private bedrooms for sleep and storing personal belongings. Residents share a kitchen, bathroom, and living room. Each resident also has an additional storage closet in the main living space. The youth are a part of two different programs. Some come directly from our shelter while others can come directly from other living situtations.
The building itself contains a common lounge space for TV, playing games, and sharing community meals. There is a computer lab where youth complete their school work and search for a job. There is a basketball half court, outdoor courtyard, and community garden behind the building where residents can grow fresh food. The staff offices are on-site to provide case management and supervision.
In addition to these 20 beds, Covenant House Pennsylvania can now serve an additional 24 youth through our new Rapid Rehousing program. This program helps to remove the barriers to stable housing. We help the youth secure their own lease and establish rental history while helping with move-in costs and providing them case management. We also work with the youth to ensure that they can maintain the lease financially at the end of the first year.
Our Street Outreach team that works Tuesday through Saturday is also based out of this location and serves numerous communities throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding region.
Our Sanctuary Program in York serves the at-risk youth of the region with vital services that include: basic needs (shelter, food, clothing, and showers), educational and vocational services, outreach, and case management.
Staff can refer youth to additional local resources such as physical and mental health services, drug and alcohol counseling, and legal services. The program includes 10 shelter beds for youth 21 and under. The Drop-In Center and Outreach team are available Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 8 PM.
Covenant House Pennsylvania is a safe space.
